Application Guidelines

Date of the next entry period: Tuesday, May 10th

Before applying, read through the Rules, FAQ, and Setting & Premise pages.
You must have a Reserve to apply.
Reserves open a week before apps open & close when the reserve cap is reached for that period or apps close.
Applications must be posted in the comments below, not linked.
Your first comment will be unscreened. Be sure to follow the guidelines if you don't want your application visible.

We are looking for an understanding of the character, not a book report.
Please try to keep your applications concise, direct and to the point.
Extra flourish is tempting but unnecessary.

Your Initial Comment to the post:
Your first response to the application post should just be the Basic Information section of the application. This section details who you are and who you are apping into the game. This comment will be unscreened, and visible to everyone. If you include other sections in your initial comment they will also be visible. This comment is the one we will respond to when reviewing applications.

    Basic Information
Player Handle: The name you will go by in game.
Contact: An email, plurk, aim or personal journal account you can be contacted through.
Reserve Link: A link to your comment on the reserve page.
Character Name: The name of the character your application is for.
Canon: The canon your character is from.
Character Information & Samples
Respond to your initial comment with the second section of the application. This section covers information about your character and your writing samples.

    Character Information & Samples
Canon Point: A one sentence descriptions of the current point in your character's canon. This includes Original Characters.
Background Information: A brief summary of a character's canon history or an Original Character's history and world. This does not need to exceed 400 words.
Personality: A short and concise introduction to the character’s personality. Here we are looking at the basic building blocks of your character. Pick the key personality traits you feel best define the character and explain those. Again, under 400 words should be more than enough. Just show us you know who you're playing.

Skills, Abilities and Powers: In simple list format, outline your character's skills, abilities and any special powers they may have. Please remember to include things like weapon, tech, farming and other survival skills, as these will become important in this survival-oriented game.
Fears If your character has fears that are touched on or outlined in canon, give us a list of those as well. If you are uncomfortable with any of these fears being used against your character in the future, please mention as much in this section as well.
Inventory: The items on your character at their canon point will not enter the game with them in the traditional sense. Your character enters the game with a set of clothes standard to The Walking Dead (1 pair of boots, 1 pair of slacks, 1 pair of socks, a belt, a t-shirt and an optional jacket or hat), a one week supply of canned or dry food, a canteen of water, a flashlight, a cell phone and charger with no power or service, and several other items of your choosing.

What you will need to do here is choose one item from the following categories for your character to have on them. These will be your character's introductory supply pack.
      One Earth 'Weapon' of choice:
A blunt force weapon (Crowbar, baseball bat, stop sign, lead pipe, wrench, etc)
A gun (Handgun, Shotgun, AK, Sniper Rifle
A blade (Machete, katana, axe, sword, rapier, dagger, etc)
A projectile weapon (Slingshot, crossbow, bow, javelin etc)
An item of defense (Swat shield, shield, trash can lid, pepper spray, stun gun)
Alternative Weapons (Nail covered wooden stick, flamethrower, super soaker, chainsaw etc)
Projectile weapons/guns will come with a small amount of ammo.

Characters may find different weapons later and keep or trade the one they enter with.

      One supply carrying pack
This may be a dufflebag, backpack, suitcase or other form of pack

One personal item from canon: This can be a photograph, a stuffed animal, a favorite article of clothing, or even a favorite food. It can NOT be a vehicle, a living thing, an ai unit, or a weapon. Use common sense with this item to make sure you are not picking something that gives your character an unfair advantage or breaks the game.
Pick these three things and list them in this section.

Game Setting Sample: You can link this sample from the test drive or write a new one. This sample can either be in [Action] or Prose format and must take place in the game setting. It can Not be your character's first interaction with the setting and should be written as if they have already been in the setting for a time.
Secondary Sample: Written or linked to, this can be anything you feel displays your ability to write, and demonstrates how you write your character, but must be in either [action] or prose format and not a network/texting format.
